Frequently Asked Questions
|
Q:
What do photovoltaic systems cost? |
| A: The cost of a
PV system depends its size, the type of system you
need, and the place you are living. Overall system
prices for grid-connected systems vary between $7 and $10 per
watt, installed. A typical size for a residential customer might be from 700
watts to 5 kW and range in price from $ 4,000 to $ 45,000 before
tax incentives and rebates.
|
|
Q: How long
will a system last? |
A: Solar
electricity systems have warranties from 20 to 30 years. Some of
the earliest systems installed are already over 35 years old, and are still
producing electricity.
You do need to make sure these systems are added to your
property insurance to cover weather-related damages.

|
Q.
How does a PV system work? |
A.
Photovoltaic panels produce DC power. This electricity is sent
by wire runs to a grid-tied inverter. In a grid-tied system the
inverter pushes power back into the utility system.
All code-required safety equipment will be designed into your
system.

Q.
How do I get started? |
A. Arrange for a site assessment to
determine site location and system size. The site assessment
includes a survey of energy usages in the home and
recommendations for saving energy through efficiency.
