CONSERVATION
GRANTS – $ 200 per grant*
Members may apply for a one-time per year grant for
the implementation of permanently installed energy conservation
measures. This will be on a 50% cost-share basis, up to $200. Grants
might include but are not limited to the following:
- Clothes line
Clothes lines and drying racks are a great way to save energy, since
the clothes dryer is one of the most energy-hungry appliances in
your home.

- Corn, pellet, or wood stove
Today you can choose from a new generation
of wood-, corn- and pellet-burning appliances that are cleaner
burning, more efficient, and powerful enough to heat many
average-sized, modern homes.

- Trees
for shading (site plan required)
The U.S. Department of Energy
estimates that simply shading a home’s south and west sides with
trees can reduce heating and cooling energy consumption by 25%.

- Insulation
Properly insulating your home
helps reduce your heating and cooling costs and makes your home more
comfortable. Attics are often one of the easiest places to insulate.

Ceiling fans
Because they efficiently move air, Energy Star ceiling fans keep
you comfortable year-round while saving you money on your cooling
and heating costs.
Insulated earth tube livestock waters
How does it work?
The water
supply line passes through an insulated earth tube. This tube allows
movement of air warmed by geothermal heat around the water supply
line to keep it from freezing. Ask for more information at the
Cooperative.
Tractor heater timers
By using timers on your tractor engine block heaters, you can save
up to 85% on energy costs.

Programmable thermostat
You can save as much as 10% a year on your heating and cooling bills
by simply turning your thermostat back 10% to 15% for 8 hours.

APPLIANCE RECYCLING CASH REWARDS – $ 50 per appliance
Do you really need that extra fridge in the basement?
Old, working appliances, like spare refrigerators and freezers, can add
over $ 100 to your annual energy bill. You can save energy and money --
and receive a cash reward -- by letting FEC pick up and safely dispose
of old, inefficient appliances.
Qualifying units:

Refrigerators and
freezers, 10 cu. ft. or larger, no commercial sizes, maximum 1 each
type
-
Appliances
must be on the account premises, clean, empty and in working
condition (plugged in and running properly) at the time of
pick-up.
